KCSO SWAT Operator Phillip Jesse Campas gave the ultimate sacrifice while on duty on July 25, 2021. While at EBHS, Deputy Campas played Basketball for 3 years, Baseball for 4 years, and Football for 4 years. He was the Starting Quarterback from 2001–2003, was the most inspirational player in football in 2003, and was selected 1st team all SEYL Linebacker in 2003. Deputy Campas graduated EBHS with honors in 2004.
Upon graduation, Deputy Campas served in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008. In 2010, he was assigned to MCRD Parris Island as a drill instructor. During Phillip's service and dedication to the Marine Corps, Phillip was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon, and numerous other medals throughout his military career.
After 10 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, Campas joined the Kern County Sheriff's Department where he graduated as the top recruit of his class. After Metro Patrol, he went into EMT (Electronic Monitoring Tracking). He also participated in training and certifying deputies while serving as an RTO: Recruit Training Officer. He was also a SWAT member. Concurrently, he was training to become a Range Master at the Sheriff's Department.
Phillip enjoyed helping others who wanted to learn more of the duties he held throughout his entire life. Phillip always tried to give his best at whatever goal he was working towards at 100%, and then he would help support others. Phillip had good work ethics and was always ready to learn. Phillip was passionate about his work and led by example.
Phillip is survived by his father Jesse, mother Christine, sister Adrianna Hernandez (Moris), nephews Nathan (godson) and Lukas, niece Lucila, wife Christina, and children Eli (15), Camila (11), and Analissa (8), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Deputy Campas embodies what we hope all our students at E.B.H.S. will strive to be.
